Gillingham Man Jailed for Downloading Thousands of Indecent Images of Children

Aaron Langley, 32, of Imperial Road, Gillingham, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for possessing over 18,500 indecent images and videos of children, some as young as two or three years old.

Langley, who was previously convicted of indecent assault as a juvenile, was arrested in January 2020. The images found on his devices covered all levels of seriousness, with many depicting young children being abused by adults.

In court, Langley admitted to 15 charges of possessing indecent images of children and stated that he had a sexual interest in boys aged 10 to 17. He claimed that he had been viewing the images for some time and kept them stored on his devices.

The judge, Charles Macdonald QC, described the case as "quite bad" with many aggravating factors, particularly Langley's sharing of the images with others. Langley's name will appear on the sex offenders' register for 10 years and he will be barred from working with children or vulnerable adults.

Investigating officer DC Jo-anne Gordon stated that the case highlights Kent Police's commitment to investigating reports of online child sexual abuse. She expressed the hope that Langley will use his time in prison to reflect on the impact his actions have had on the victims.
