Convicted Sex Offender Jailed for String of Offenses
Alan Ludar-Smith, 46, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison at Norwich Crown Court after being found guilty of a string of sex offenses. Ludar-Smith, who admitted to the offenses, had to be helped in the dock after the sentence was handed down. He was found to have engaged in a number of illicit online activities, including asking a young girl to send him an indecent photo of her younger sister, believed to be four years old.
The court heard that Ludar-Smith had been found to have indecent images of children on his phone and had distributed these images to another person. He had also been found to have engaged in sexually explicit conversations with two girls under the age of 16, asking one of them to send him pictures of her younger sister. Ludar-Smith had also offered to meet one of the girls and pay her fare.
Prosecutor Edward Renvoize stated that Ludar-Smith was already a convicted sex offender and that the latest offenses came to light after a police protection unit discovered indecent images on his phone. Further investigation of his phone and laptop revealed more than 100 indecent images in the most serious category.
Ludar-Smith, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage another to cause a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to engage a child in sexual activity, downloading indecent images, distributing indecent images, possession of extreme pornography, and possession of prohibited images.
Judge Maureen Bacon, in sentencing Ludar-Smith, stated that he had an unhealthy sexual interest in young girls. While it was not confirmed whether the girls he had been communicating with were real or not, he had asked one of them to send a picture of her younger sister, who was believed to be four years old. The judge emphasized that attempting to cause a child to engage in a sexual act is a serious offense.
Philip Farr, Ludar-Smith's defense attorney, argued that his client was an isolated individual and unaware of the gravity of his actions. He stated that the offenses were attempts and did not involve direct contact.
Ludar-Smith has been placed on the sex offenders register for life.
