58-Year-Old Jailed for Indecent Exposure in Front of Children

A 58-year-old man has been jailed for indecently exposing himself to children playing in woods.

On Saturday, March 9th, Alan Mercer, formerly of Astley Street, Dukinfield, asked a group of girls to stand guard while he went to urinate. After telling them he had finished, the children turned around to find Mercer with his trousers around his ankles.

The incident took place near Lockeyer Park in Burnley. Following CCTV enquiries, police arrested Mercer a day later. He was charged with exposure on Monday and appeared at Blackburn Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Mercer was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We do not tolerate behaviour of this nature and we will do everything in our power to identify the offender and put them before the courts."
