Paedophile oil worker jailed after sharing abuse through home wifi at St Cyrus
A paedophile oil worker who shared sickening child abuse content online from his home in St Cyrus has been jailed for four years. Alan Moir, 43, was caught after cybercrime investigators discovered he was using his home wifi to share the explicit material.
NOCAP (National Online Child Abuse Prevention) had discovered an IP address sharing child abuse content and traced it back to Moir's home. A police raid uncovered explicit content being shared from a Dropbox account registered to Moir’s email address.
Officers found images of Moir sexually assaulting a young girl aged eight to nine on his phone, as well as indecent photos of another girl who was thought to be between 15 and 17.
A total of 1,663 inaccessible still images of abuse were found on the handsets. Prosecutor William Frain-Bell KC said there were over 80 indecent images taken of Moir’s first victim and more than 150 indecent "pseudo-photographs" of the second child.
The advocate depute added: "There were over 1,400 indecent images of other young girls aged between one and 13 years of age."
Moir pled guilty earlier this year to charges of sexually assaulting a young child by penetration on two occasions between 2018 and 2019, and permitting the taking or making of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children between 2018 and 2023.
Defence advocate Gillan Ross KC said her first offender client was employed in the oil industry but has lost his job. She added that Moir is motivated to secure employment upon release and will accept any help offered to him in addressing his issues.
Sentencing Moir, Lady Haldane told him it was clear "significant harm" had been caused. He was placed on the sex offenders register for life.
