Registered sex offender jailed for approaching young girls via social media.

Man Sentenced for Online Sexual Offences Against Children

A registered sex offender who repeatedly approached young girls online via social media has been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison.

Albert Jones, 55, of High Road in Byfleet, was found guilty of attempting to cause or incite a female under 16 to engage in sexual activity at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday (30 June).

The investigation revealed that Jones used a fake profile posing as a 17-year-old to contact 13-year-old girls on social media sites. He encouraged them to engage in sexually explicit conversations, and after a brief interaction, he would close the account and re-engage with the child using a different profile username.

Jones was arrested at his home address on 7 April. Most of the offences occurred between August 2021 and January of this year.

Investigating Officer Estelle Sharp, who led the investigation, stated: "This was a complex case that involved both our officers and those from the Metropolitan Police. We are committed to catching prolific sex offenders who target children online and will do everything in our power to investigate reports, support victims, and bring perpetrators to justice."

If you are considering reporting sexual abuse, please know that your report will be taken seriously, and we have specialized support in place to assist you.
