Police Uncover "Depraved Offences" in Child Sexual Abuse Case
A 41-year-old engineer, Andrew Baugh, was sentenced to seven years in prison at Mold Crown Court today for offenses related to child sexual abuse material.
Baugh, of Gresford Road, Llay, Wrexham, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing indecent images and causing a child to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that police discovered over 150,000 images and videos on Baugh's devices, many of which depicted child sexual abuse material. Some of the images showed distressed children being tortured.
Prosecutor Dafydd Roberts stated that the sheer volume of material found was "extremely concerning and depraved."
Baugh claimed to police that his online conversations on the Kik messaging platform were of a "fantasy nature." However, Judge Nicola Jones acknowledged the real victims involved and the serious nature of the offenses.
Defense attorney Oliver King presented a letter of apology from Baugh, who has been receiving counselling from a psychotherapist. King stated that Baugh "wants me to convey his remorse to the court. He's deeply ashamed of what he's done."
In addition to the prison sentence, Baugh was given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order with stringent conditions. He must also register as a sex offender.
