Andrew Cooke-Edwards, 34, of Aylestone Hill, Hereford, was sentenced to life in prison at Worcester Crown Court today (Monday, 3 October). He will serve a minimum of nine years and nine months behind bars.
The attack occurred on 19 November 2020, around 1 pm, on the river bank in Hereford. Cooke-Edwards approached a 23-year-old woman and threatened to kill her if she didn't hand over her mobile phone. After she complied, he proceeded to rape her orally and vaginally.
The victim was later found by members of the public. Cooke-Edwards was arrested later that day and charged with two counts of rape, making threats to kill, and robbery. He subsequently pleaded guilty to all charges.
Detective Constable Lawrence Smith stated, "This was a shocking attack on an innocent young girl. We greatly admire her courage for helping to bring her attacker to justice and hope that this sentence might allow her to move on with her life."
