Sex Offender Jailed for Searching Child Pornography Just One Month After Being Spared Prison

Anthony Press, a 40-year-old man from Hull, was sentenced to one year in prison for breaching a sexual harm prevention order and failing to register his details as a sex offender. Press had previously been given an 18-month suspended prison sentence in March 2019 for attempting to communicate sexually with a child.

Just one month later, in April 2019, Press began searching the internet for indecent images of children. He attempted to cover his tracks by deleting his internet search history, but police discovered his activities during routine checks.

The court heard that Press had "deliberately" breached the "golden opportunity" he was given to change his ways. Judge John Thackray QC stated that Press was "doing his best to find indecent images of children and to hide the fact that he was looking for indecent images of children."

Press also failed to update his details as a sex offender on time, further demonstrating his disregard for the court's orders. His actions were deemed a serious breach, fueling child sexual abuse and causing harm to the victims involved.

The judge ultimately decided that Press's risk could not be managed in the community and that he needed to be incarcerated for his rehabilitation.
