Rapist who decapitated and cooked son's rabbit arms himself with bottle during brawl.

Billy Rutter, a convicted rapist, has been jailed again after he armed himself with a broken glass bottle during a fight on a night out.

Rutter, 35, was previously jailed for a violent sexual assault on a schoolgirl and more recently locked up after killing the family pet rabbit, decapitating it, throwing its head at his ex-girlfriend and cooking it in the oven.

Police witnessed Rutter arming himself with a broken bottle outside a Revolution bar in Liverpool city centre on December 11, 2022. He had been involved in an argument with a group of strangers and was seen hiding the broken bottle behind his back before approaching them. Police intervened, tackled Rutter, and he dropped the bottle.

Rutter has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for possession of an offensive weapon, assault with intent to rob, and possession of a bladed article. In 2005, he was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl who he stalked and assaulted as she waited for a lift home. He grabbed her, dragged her to nearby waste ground, and raped her despite her screams.

In February 2021, Rutter was imprisoned for 15 months for killing the family rabbit, assaulting his ex-partner, and breaching a restraining order. He decapitated the pet, threw its head at his ex-girlfriend while she was in bed, and then cooked the rabbit in the oven.

Rutter's latest arrest highlights his continued dangerousness and the need for ongoing public protection. He is currently behind bars awaiting sentence.
