Kettering Man Sentenced to 36 Months for Sexual Assaults

A Kettering man, Binu Paul (47), has been sentenced to a total of 36 months in prison for three sexual assaults that occurred in Rushden and Kettering.

Paul was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at an address in Rushden on March 5, 2019. He was also found guilty of two counts of sexual assault against different women in Kettering on October 13, 2021.

The Kettering assaults were particularly noteworthy due to the intervention of members of the public who helped restrain Paul after he assaulted a woman in Horse Market. The assault in Silver Street, captured on CCTV, saw Paul strike a woman on the bottom before fleeing when she confronted him. It was in Horse Market that he sexually assaulted another woman, leading to his apprehension by bystanders.

Paul, residing at Bellway Close, Kettering, first appeared before Northampton Magistrates' Court on October 15, 2021, facing charges including sexual assault, harassment, assault (related to incidents in Rushden), and failure to provide a breath sample while driving. The court addressed the breath test failure, resulting in a 36-month driving ban, a £120 fine, £85 costs, and a £35 victim surcharge. The sexual assault charges were subsequently transferred to Northampton Crown Court.

On July 24, 2024, Paul was sentenced to a total of 36 months' imprisonment for the three sexual assault convictions. He was also issued a five-year restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victim in the Rushden case and placed on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely.
