Paedophile Jailed for 25 Years for Abusing Two Schoolgirls

An 83-year-old paedophile, Brian Clark, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing two schoolgirls, robbing them of their childhood.

The victims, who bravely came forward to report the non-recent abuse, initially remained silent out of fear and confusion. Despite their attempts to move on with their lives, the impact of Clark's abuse continued to haunt them throughout adulthood.

In 2019, specialist officers from Northumbria Police's Safeguarding Department were contacted. An investigation was launched, leading to Clark's arrest in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.

Clark was charged with 13 offenses, including nine counts of rape, gross indecency, and indecent assault. He denied all charges, but was found guilty by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court last month.

During sentencing on July 17, the court heard emotional victim impact statements. The judge sentenced Clark to 25 years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.

Detective Sergeant Jaclyn Younger, who led the investigation, stated: "Brian Clark groomed his victims and believed he would escape justice, never thinking they would speak out. This sentence sends a strong message that we will always listen to victims and hold perpetrators accountable, no matter how long ago the abuse took place."
