Pensioner Brian Topliss Released After Serving Half Of Sentence For Child Sex Offences

Brian Topliss, a 81-year-old convicted paedophile, has been released from prison after serving half of his ten-year sentence for a series of sickening child sex offences.

Topliss, who was sentenced in 2019 at Birmingham Crown Court, befriended young boys, luring them to his home under the guise of playing computer games or going to parks and swimming. He abused one boy repeatedly and regularly invited others into his home for similar purposes.

During sentencing, Judge Sarah Buckingham described Topliss's actions as a "gross abuse and a breach of trust," stating that he had a long-standing sexual interest in children. Topliss groomed boys, filmed them performing sexual acts at his residence, and possessed around 15,000 indecent images for his own gratification.

One victim, now in his 30s, was befriended by Topliss when he taught him swimming and diving lessons. Prosecutor Steven Bailey revealed that Topliss groomed the boy, treating him as a favorite before abusing him repeatedly. Topliss also invited other boys to his home, where he showed them pornography, gave them drugs and sweets, and coerced them into performing sexual acts. He documented these acts, and police later recovered 173 still images and three videos.

The Ministry of Justice confirmed that Topliss is subject to strict conditions upon his release, including curfews and exclusion zones. He faces the possibility of returning to prison if he breaches these conditions.
