A man who tried to entice three girls into committing sexual acts has been jailed for four years.

Bedlington Man Sentenced for Online Sex Offences

Christopher Carey, 43, from Bedlington, Northumberland, has been sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court for a number of sexual offences. He pleaded guilty to the charges after being arrested for attempting to engage in sexual communication with minors online.

Carey believed he was communicating with three girls, aged 12 and 13, between January and May of this year. He initially shared non-explicit selfies and messages but then became increasingly explicit, describing how he wanted to "kiss and cuddle" the youngsters and detailing sexual acts he wanted them to perform.

Northumbria Police stated that Carey, of Elmfield Court, had been "completely undeterred" by a 10-year sexual offences prevention order issued in 2017. Detective Inspector Rachel Lewis commented that despite the order, Carey "continued to offend".

Carey was sentenced on Monday after admitting to inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual acts, four counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child, and breaching the sexual offences prevention order.

The strong evidence presented to the court resulted in Carey's guilty plea. He has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and given a lifetime sexual harm prevention order.
