Christopher Flavin Jailed for Child Sexual Abuse Offences
Christopher Flavin, a former teacher and youth football club chairman with a history of child sexual abuse, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Flavin, now 72, was convicted of grooming and sexually assaulting a schoolboy in Carmarthenshire in 2023. The court heard that he also possessed over 300 indecent images of children and made disturbing internet searches related to child sexual abuse.
This is Flavin's third conviction for child sex offences. In the past two decades, he has served two lengthy prison sentences for similar crimes committed in Bristol. Despite his age and living on a caravan park in west Wales, Flavin continued his predatory behavior.
Prosecutor Tom Scapens described Flavin as "a committed, calculating, and dangerous paedophile." The court heard that Flavin attempted to blame the victim, claiming he was hypersexualized and promiscuous. He also tried to obstruct justice by repeatedly failing to attend court hearings.
Judge Geraint Walters characterized Flavin as a lifelong abuser of young boys and stated that nothing had deterred him from his criminal behavior. The judge emphasized Flavin's lack of remorse, noting that he sees himself as the victim. He imposed a 15-year extended sentence, including 10 years in prison followed by five years on extended licence.
Flavin will remain a registered sex offender for life and is subject to indefinite sexual harm prevention orders.
