Dangerous Sex Offender Jailed for 13 Years and Six Months

Christopher Hide, 30, of Blackburn, has been sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison for raping and attempting to rape a woman. He targeted the woman between April 2015 and April 2017, committing "several sickening attacks" according to Lancashire Police.

Hide was jailed at the Sessions House in Preston and was also given an extended licence period of four years as well as a restraining order.

The woman came forward to police in April 2020, and Hide was subsequently arrested. He pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape shortly before his trial in February.

Det Con Alex Prendergast, of Lancashire Police, praised the victim's "courage and strength" in coming forward and supporting the prosecution. He stated that Hide is a "dangerous sex offender" and that he hopes the case will give other victims of sexual offenses the confidence to report their experiences to police.
