Pervert Christopher Powell Sentenced for Possession of Child Abuse Images

Christopher Powell, a 31-year-old carer for his parents, was sentenced to a two-year community order at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after pleading guilty to possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography.

Police raided Powell's home and discovered thousands of images and videos depicting child abuse on a laptop and two hard drives. The images ranged in severity, with the most serious category, A, containing 383 images, followed by 249 in category B and 2,745 in category C. Additionally, 96 images of extreme pornography were recovered.

Prosecutor Nicholas Tatlow highlighted the distressing nature of the images, emphasizing the pain and suffering endured by the children depicted. The court heard that Powell had initially denied the charges but later admitted his guilt.

In mitigation, Jason Holt emphasized Powell's remorse and the difficult upbringing he had experienced. Despite his past, Powell now cares for his parents, both of whom have suffered strokes. The court acknowledged his efforts as a carer while emphasizing the seriousness of his offenses.

Recorder John Butterfield condemned Powell's actions, stating that the possession of child abuse images contributes to the exploitation of children. He emphasized the real-life suffering of the victims and the devastating impact of such materials.

As part of the sentence, Powell was ordered to undergo 20 days of rehabilitation activity and complete 40 hours of unpaid work. He was also subjected to a five-year sexual harm prevention order, and the laptop and hard drives containing the illicit materials were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.
