Sex Offender Jailed for Possessing Indecent Images of Children

A sex offender has been sent back to prison after being found with 20 indecent images of children. Police revealed that 11 of these images were classified as category A, the most serious type.

Christopher Wood, a registered sex offender, was apprehended during an unannounced visit by officers from the Warwickshire Police Sex Offender Management Unit (SOMU) to his home in Alcester in November 2023.

The visit was conducted as part of Wood's five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which required him to provide any internet-capable electronic devices to police upon request. During the visit, officers discovered evidence that the 23-year-old had deleted data from his phone, violating his SHPO.

Wood was subsequently arrested, and his phone was sent for forensic analysis. The analysis uncovered 20 indecent images of children, including 11 categorized as category A.

Wood, of Kingfisher Way, was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Warwick Crown Court last week.

Detective Constable Matt Collins of the SOMU stated: "We are pleased with the sentence given to Wood. This outcome demonstrates our commitment, alongside the courts, to upholding court orders designed to safeguard the public."
