Sex offender sent back to prison for breaching order.
A sex offender from Horley has been sent back to prison after police found six internet-enabled devices at his home.
Clive Edward Ellis, 67, was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) following his conviction for rape in 2007.
He was sentenced on January 26, 2007, to an indeterminate public protection sentence of 999 months after being found guilty of raping a female under 16 over a period of approximately two years.
He was also convicted of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children.
Ellis spent over six years in custody before being released on licence on April 24, 2013, and was subject to strict conditions imposed by his licence and SHPO.
On October 8, 2024, officers from Surrey Police's High Harm Perpetrator Unit (HHPU) conducted an unannounced visit to Ellis's address.
They discovered six internet-enabled devices, including two mobile phones, three tablets, and a laptop, which he had not disclosed, breaching the terms of his SHPO.
Ellis was charged with three counts of breaching his SHPO, and the devices were sent for forensic examination.
He was remanded in custody before being recalled to prison and fined £253.
Ellis will remain in prison indefinitely.
Detective Inspector Abigail Edey of the HHPU stated: "The fact that Ellis has been sent back to prison indefinitely demonstrates how seriously orders like Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are taken.
It also highlights that we regularly check on offenders released from prison and take strong action when necessary.
These orders are in place to prevent further offenses and protect the public, and we will always act decisively when discovering violations of their terms."
