Man Jailed for Sexually Assaulting Child After Plying Her with Alcohol

Colin Shaw, 51, has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. Shaw, formerly of the Worksop area, gave the victim multiple cans of beer before assaulting her at his home in Rotherham.

The court heard that Shaw touched the victim inappropriately, putting his hand up her top and inside her bra, leaving her traumatized. The following morning, Shaw encouraged her to stay silent and downplay the assault.

Detective Constable Charlotte Adamson, from the Major Crime Unit, expressed her disgust at Shaw's actions, stating: "Shaw took advantage of his young victim by plying her with alcohol before subjecting her to a sickening assault."

Adamson praised the victim's bravery in reporting the incident, saying: "I cannot imagine how terrified she must have been after such a traumatic ordeal and I want to commend the bravery of the victim for showing courage beyond her years in reporting this to us."

Shaw was found guilty of one count of sexual assault following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court. He was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
