Convicted Sex Offender Jailed for Breaching Order and Possessing Child Abuse Images
Craig Neal Jenkins, a 52-year-old resident of Burton, has been sentenced to two years and two months imprisonment after appearing at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday, October 19. Jenkins pleaded guilty to three counts of making an indecent photograph of a child and two counts of breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
The court proceedings stemmed from an incident on August 2, when officers from Staffordshire Police's Sexual Offender Management Unit visited Jenkins' residence as part of his Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) compliance checks. The SOPO, imposed in 2014, was designed to last for ten years.
During the visit, officers discovered deleted WhatsApp messages on Jenkins' mobile phone, including an indecent image of a child. Despite denying the possession of any other devices, a subsequent search of his home revealed a camcorder and multiple tapes containing further indecent images of children.
Jenkins was found to have violated his SOPO by deleting his WhatsApp history, failing to disclose all his devices, and utilizing an incognito browser. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for ten years and subjected to a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Jane Mulliner, representing the Sexual Offender Management Unit, emphasized the seriousness with which they approach the management of sex offenders. "Jenkins has shown a complete disregard and lack of respect for the very strict notification requirements he is expected to abide by," Mulliner stated after the sentencing.
