A Manipulative Teenager Jailed for Sexual Offenses

Dalton Joyce-Kent, a 19-year-old from Lychpit, Basingstoke, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for engaging in sexual activity with two teenage girls in Didcot.

Joyce-Kent pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO). The SOPO, imposed in January 2022, prohibited him from unsupervised contact with children.

The prosecution, led by Stephen Shay, revealed that Joyce-Kent had a history of sexual offenses, having previously admitted to one count of having sexual activity with a child. He also received a 15-month suspended sentence in October 2022 for making threats to kill.

The court heard that Joyce-Kent met one of the 15-year-old victims on 13 or 14 occasions, engaging in sexual activity with her in a wooded area in Didcot. These actions violated both his existing court orders.

Defense attorney Thomas Evans argued that Joyce-Kent's actions stemmed from immaturity and a troubled upbringing, emphasizing the violence he witnessed throughout his life. While acknowledging the wrongfulness of his behavior, Joyce-Kent expressed remorse for his actions.

Judge Patrick Eccles, presiding over the case, deemed Joyce-Kent a dangerous offender who deliberately and calculatedly breached his SOPO. The judge sentenced Joyce-Kent to 54 months in prison, requiring him to serve at least two-thirds of the sentence before eligibility for parole. He will also be subject to an additional three years on license and must pay a 120 victims surcharge.
