Damien Riley's Jail Term Increased After Another Sex Assault Victim Comes Forward

Convicted sex offender Damien Riley has had his jail term increased to 11 years after another victim came forward.

Riley, from Ewood, Oldham, was originally convicted in 2021 of 16 incidents of inappropriate sexual activity against four young boys in the 1980s. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

Following his initial sentencing, another victim came forward alleging Riley had performed a sex act on him when he was a teenager. Riley chose to stand trial for this new allegation.

Sentencing Riley to an additional year in prison, Judge Angela Nield stated that Riley could have acknowledged his guilt and avoided the current situation. She emphasized the distress caused to the victim who had to testify about the traumatic experience.

This case highlights the long-lasting impact of sexual abuse and the importance of victims coming forward, even after many years.
