Cannock Man Jailed for 17 Years for Rape and Child Sex Offenses

A Cannock man, Daniel Cater (30), has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a series of child sex offenses, including the rape of a girl under 13 and taking an indecent photograph of a child.

Cater was found guilty of the offenses after a trial. The investigation began in March 2021 when Staffordshire Police officers arrested him on suspicion of making, possessing, and distributing indecent images of children. The seizure and analysis of his digital devices led to his further arrest for the rape of a girl under 13.

He was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Monday, March 14. In addition to the prison term, Cater was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and comply with a sexual harm prevention order.

Detective Sergeant Sophie Boden, of the force's child protection and exploitation team, commented: "I would like to thank the victim and their family for showing great strength and courage in providing evidence in this case. Cater is truly a dangerous man who has now been brought to justice, and as a result, others are now protected from him."

"I am immensely proud of DC Sophie Crooks and DC Jennifer Rawsthorne, who led the investigation. Alongside their colleagues, they have worked tirelessly on this case which has been particularly distressing."
