Pontarddulais Pervert Daniel Owens Sent Explicit Picture to Child Decoy
A Pontarddulais man has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for attempting to sexually communicate with a child and breaching his sexual harm prevention order.
Daniel Owens, 29, of Ffordd Cambria in Pontarddulais, contacted who he believed was a 13-year-old girl on an online messaging application. The 'girl' was actually a decoy account set up by law enforcement.
Prosecutor Regan Walters told Swansea Crown Court that Owens' profile stated "Here to have some fun and spread my seed" and included a topless picture of himself. Despite being informed the 'girl' was 13, Owens persisted in trying to engage her in sexual conversation, sending explicit messages and images.
Owens video called the decoy three times and phoned them in an attempt to verify their age. He admitted his guilt on charges of attempted sexual communication with a child, sending an indecent photograph, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and possessing an offensive weapon (a telescopic baton).
Judge Paul Thomas KC described Owens as "undeterrable" stating that despite previous court appearances and sentences for similar offences, he had shown no remorse or willingness to change his behaviour. Owens must register as a sex offender indefinitely.
