Homeless Man Jailed for 19 Years After Raping Woman in Tent

Daniel Woolf, 36, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for raping a woman after dragging her into his tent in the woods near Altrincham train station.

The incident occurred on October 15, 2022, when Woolf approached the woman, in her 30s, at 1 am. He had been living in a tent in the woods off South Downs Drive in Hale at the time.

Police described Woolf as a "predatory offender" who led the woman away from the station and into his tent. When she screamed and tried to escape, he threw her into a bush and punched and kicked her until she went back inside the tent.

Woolf then raped the terrified woman. After hours of being held captive, the woman managed to escape to a nearby shop where she alerted the authorities.

Police arrested Woolf, and he was subsequently convicted of rape, false imprisonment, and assault at Minshull Street Crown Court.

Det Con Helen Bagnall commended the woman's bravery and said Woolf "preyed on the fact she didn't know the area."

"The woman was obviously terrified when Woolf dragged her into a tent and raped her," Bagnall said. "What she has been through is horrendous. She was extremely brave managing to alert a shop worker, and I want to thank them in turn for contacting us so we could apprehend Woolf."

"He preyed on the fact the woman didn't really know the area and used that to his advantage to inflict his horrific assault where not only did he rape her, but he held her in a tent for hours."
