Serial Sex Offender Sentenced to 34 Years in Jail

Danny Owen, 47, of Maddover Crescent, Liskeard, has been sentenced to 34 years in prison for multiple sexual offenses against women and girls over a 20-year period.

Judge Robert Linford handed down the sentence following a 17-day trial in February 2023, where a jury found Owen guilty of 24 offenses against four victims. He was acquitted of five offenses against two other victims.

Owen was sentenced to 28 years in custody with an additional six years on license. The court heard harrowing accounts of Owen inappropriately touching young victims and telling them it was normal. His behavior escalated to rape in some cases, where he forced himself on the victims and threatened them to silence.

The victims were aged between five and their early teens at the time of the offenses. Owen's controlling and abusive behavior spanned months and even years in some cases.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, Owen consistently denied the allegations in interviews, claiming he did not understand why the victims would accuse him.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Amy Wooldridge, and Former Detective Sgt Tim Wright, praised the victims for their courage in coming forward and sharing their stories.

"We are delighted with the sentence passed by the court today following a four-year investigation into offenses committed between 1990 and 2011," they said. "We hope this outcome will bring comfort and closure to the brave women who not only reported what happened to them but supported a long-running and complex investigation. I admire the strength of these women who stood up in court and faced him, in order to tell their stories."

The officers expressed their gratitude to everyone who supported the investigation, allowing them to achieve justice for those who suffered from Owen's sexual attacks.

"I hope the outcome secured from this case serves as a reassurance to others who may have been sexually abused that we will investigate thoroughly and do everything we can to bring offenders to justice," they concluded.
