Man Jailed for 11 Years for Raping Teenage Girl in Hove Park

David Berbers, 21, of Byatt Walk in Richmond upon Thames, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for raping a teenage girl in St Ann's Well Gardens, Hove, on July 25, 2021.

The victim, who was under the age of 16, had arranged to meet Berbers after they had been communicating on social media. After suggesting they walk through the park, he raped her before fleeing the scene.

The victim was supported by medical professionals and specialist police officers, who launched an urgent investigation.

Berbers was identified through his Instagram account, the phone number he used to contact the victim, and a detailed description she provided. He was arrested in London on July 28, 2021.

In addition to the rape charge in Hove, Berbers was also charged with two counts of rape and attempted rape stemming from separate investigations by the Metropolitan Police, as well as possession of extreme pornography.

On December 4, 2022, a jury at Kingston Crown Court found him guilty of three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape. Berbers pleaded guilty to possession of extreme pornography.

On February 16, 2023, Berbers was sentenced to 11 years in prison and given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
