Derek Hardman Jailed for 11 Years for Sexual Activity with a Child

Derek Hardman, a 64-year-old man from Burnley, Lancashire, has been sentenced to 11 years and nine months in prison for engaging in sexual activity with a vulnerable 16-year-old girl.

Hardman was convicted of five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child at Burnley Crown Court in November. The offenses occurred in Burnley, and Hardman was arrested after an investigation uncovered evidence including concerning text messages he sent to the victim.

Despite denying any wrongdoing during police interviews, Hardman's assertions were disproven by the overwhelming evidence presented during the investigation. In addition to his prison sentence, Hardman has been made subject of a 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
