Somerset Man Jailed for Making Indecent Images of Children
Edward Brooks, 52, from Minehead, was sentenced to 23 months in prison at Taunton Crown Court on Monday, April 1, after pleading guilty to two counts of making indecent photographs of a child.
Brooks was given a four-month sentence for each count, to run consecutively and concurrently, and an additional 19 months for breaching a suspended sentence order.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a minimum of 10 years, pay a victim surcharge of £140, and all the images in his possession will be destroyed.
Brooks was found not guilty of possessing indecent or pseudo-photographs of a child.
Commenting on the verdict, children's charity NSPCC stated that more needs to be done to address the sharing of child abuse images.
"Behind Edward Brooks' sickening collection of images and videos are countless children that will have suffered harrowing, traumatic and life changing abuse," said an NSPCC spokesperson. "He has rightly been sent to prison from where he must be made to undertake an intensive programme of rehabilitation. The scale of Brooks' offending also highlights how big this twisted industry has become and the necessity for the authorities and the tech companies to work in unison to disrupt and ultimately destroy the networks that make and share this terrible content."
