Brother of MP sent explicit images to a child and arranged to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex.

The brother of Conservative MP Penny Mordaunt, Edward Mordaunt, has been sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years, for attempting to engage a child in sexual communication.

Mordaunt, 44, pleaded guilty at a plea, trial, and preparation hearing to the offense. He was found to have sent explicit images to a decoy profile, believed to be a 14-year-old girl, and had arranged to meet her for sex.

Leeds Crown Court heard that Mordaunt, a chartered surveyor, initiated a private chat with the decoy on the KIK social media app after being in a group chat named A-Levels in Leeds with her. The decoy was actually managed by a police officer attempting to catch sex offenders.

During their online exchanges, Mordaunt sent images of a man's penis to the decoy and asked her if she had ever had sexual intercourse. He also made comments about the inappropriateness of his actions and discussed setting up a "sugar baby" fund for her. Mordaunt even referred to himself as "Teddy Eddie" and described himself as "sexy" while complimenting the decoy on her looks.

Plans were made for Mordaunt to meet the decoy, but he ultimately cancelled the meeting. He was arrested on May 27th after no further contact was made between the pair.

During sentencing, Judge Guy Kearl QC dismissed the suggestion that Mordaunt's case should be treated differently due to his sister's political role. He emphasized that all cases of this nature are handled with the same level of seriousness and fairness.

Mordaunt's defense lawyer, Catherine Silverton, argued that he had attempted to seek help after his guilty plea and was of exemplary character. She highlighted his lack of prior convictions, his efforts to engage with mental health professionals, and the references provided by his family and former employer.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Mordaunt was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, participate in 15 rehabilitation activity requirements, and adhere to a seven-year sexual harm prevention order.
