Man Jailed for Rape in Cornwall
A 27-year-old man, Frankie Mann, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for raping a woman in St Austell, Cornwall.
The incident occurred on May 28th, when Mann, riding his moped, encountered the victim searching for her lost keys and phone. He offered to help but later attacked her, pulling her to the ground and raping her.
Mann pleaded guilty to the offense at Truro Crown Court in September and received a nine-year prison sentence, followed by three years on license.
The court heard how Mann initially pretended to be helpful, offering the victim his jacket for warmth. However, he continued to ride around the area, keeping a close eye on her.
CCTV footage captured Mann waiting for the victim on Alexandra Road before attacking her. Prosecutor Heather Hope stated that Mann "pounced on her" and raped her while she was "frozen with fear," with his hand covering her mouth.
The next day, Mann approached a police cordon at the scene, claiming he had heard a woman screaming. He provided misleading details about an older man with grey hair, attempting to divert suspicion.
However, witnesses had seen Mann riding his bike on the pavement earlier that night, weaving around pedestrians. One woman reported him to the police, providing his registration plate.
A police dog discovered Mann's semen at the scene of the crime, confirming his guilt. After his arrest, Mann changed his story, claiming he had consensual sex with the woman.
The victim described her experience as "numb, repulsed, dirty and humiliated," stating, "That night killed me inside."
Judge Simon Carr described the impact on the victim as "catastrophic," stating, "You targeted and stalked this individual. You pretended to assist her."
Mann was also placed on the Sex Offender Register for life.
