Gary Davies: Convicted Sex Offender Jailed for Using Secret Phone to Befriend Family with Young Child

Convicted sex offender Gary Davies, 68, was sentenced to two years in prison for breaching his sexual harm prevention order and failing to comply with the Sex Offender Register.

Davies, of London Road, Carlisle, Cumbria, had befriended a family with a young child without disclosing his past convictions for child sex offences. Police discovered Davies' secret phone use after a probation worker observed him with the unsuspecting family.

In 2021, Davies was given a sexual harm prevention order following a conviction for outraging public decency by performing a sex act in his van near a children's birthday party. His criminal history also includes "contact" sex offences against children and possession of indecent child images.

As part of his sexual harm prevention order, Davies is prohibited from owning internet devices without police monitoring software and must disclose any online accounts he uses. He is also banned from unsupervised contact with children.

Davies admitted to possessing a secret Nokia phone, which he had failed to disclose to authorities, and setting up undisclosed accounts on YouTube and TikTok. He claimed he purchased the phone after becoming frustrated with waiting for the probation service to return his monitored device.

Judge Michael Fanning handed down a two-year prison sentence for Davies' offences committed between mid-October and mid-December of the previous year.
