Man Jailed for Rape and Sexual Assault

Gary Shaw, 53, of Market Place, Belper, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for rape, causing a person to engage in sexual activity without their consent, controlling and coercive behaviour and sexual assault.

Shaw forced his victims to endure a trial after denying the offences. A jury at Derby Crown Court saw through his lies and found him guilty in September.

Shaw was convicted of raping one woman and forcing her to engage in sexual activity with other men while he watched. He also sexually assaulted another woman and engaged in controlling and coercive behaviour towards her.

The court heard how Shaw's actions had a devastating impact on his victims, forcing them to bravely recount their ordeals.

In addition to his prison sentence, Shaw was handed restraining orders banning him from having any contact with the women. He must also sign the sex offender's register for life.
