Former Pub Landlord Jailed for Sexual Assaults

A former East Yorkshire pub landlord has been jailed after he targeted and sexually assaulted three young women. Gerald Ellis, 64, repeatedly pestered the women, showering them with gifts and money in an attempt to gain their trust and affection.

The victims, who felt powerless to speak out initially, finally came forward after Ellis was sentenced for possessing indecent images of children in September 2020. Ellis admitted to three offences of sexual assault against one woman, two offences of assault by penetration against the same woman, and two offences of sexual assault against each of the other two victims.

During the trial, the court heard that Ellis's behavior included repeatedly touching the first victim intimately, trapping her against a wall, and kissing her without her consent. He also offered the third victim £1,000 to sleep with him.

Judge Alexander Menary described Ellis's actions as "serious" and stated that only immediate custody could be justified. Ellis was sentenced to three years and two months in prison and given a 12-year sexual harm prevention order. He was also given a 15-year restraining order and must register as a sex offender for life.

The case against Ellis came to light after he was convicted of possessing indecent images of children in 2020. The court heard that Ellis had been drinking excessively and watching videos of children being abused, including a girl of four or five being raped.
