Giles Croucher Jailed for Nine Years for Attempting to Meet Teenage Girl for Sex
Giles Croucher, a 49-year-old man from Grove Lane, Ipswich, has been sentenced to nine years and six months in prison for attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
Croucher was arrested in June 2024 after officers discovered condoms, three white lace thongs, and two phones in his car. During his trial at Ipswich Crown Court, Croucher claimed he was on his way to "catch out" undercover police officers who were posing as a teenage girl online. However, a jury found him guilty in December 2024 of attempting to engage a child in sexual communication and attempting to cause or incite a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity.
The court heard that Croucher had been communicating with an online account pretending to be a 14-year-old girl, which was actually an undercover police officer. In addition to his prison sentence, Croucher has been placed on the sex offender's register indefinitely and fined £228.
