Judge Praises Young Girl's Bravery as Abuser is Jailed
Habib-Ur Rehman, 40, from Bradford, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for the abuse of a young girl. The judge, Colin Burn, commended the girl's courage in coming forward, acknowledging the lifelong impact the abuse may have on her.
Rehman was convicted by a jury of rape, two counts of sexual activity with a child, and one count of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity. The nature of the crimes led to Rehman being classified as "an offender of particular concern," meaning his potential release after serving two-thirds of his sentence will be extended by an additional year.
Judge Burn emphasized the severity of the crimes and the significant psychological harm suffered by the victim. He stated that the sentences reflected the seriousness of the offences and that there would be no reduction for any admissions or guilty pleas, as none were made.
Rehman will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
