Man Jailed for 13 Years for Raping 11-Year-Old Girl
Haji Kaloga, 31, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the brutal rape of an 11-year-old girl in Bradford. The court heard that Kaloga forced his way into the girl's bedroom, assaulted her, and then subjected her to a prolonged sexual attack.
The victim, who bravely recounted her ordeal in a victim impact statement, described how Kaloga threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the attack. She managed to escape by jumping from a first-floor window and called the police.
Kaloga pleaded guilty to rape of a child under 13 and assault by penetration. In sentencing, Recorder Andrew Haslam QC described the attack as "a quite horrifying sexual assault." He highlighted the victim's strength of character and resilience in the face of such trauma.
The NSPCC issued a statement following the sentencing, emphasizing the importance of support for victims of child sexual abuse. They urged survivors to come forward and speak out, no matter how long ago the abuse occurred.
Kaloga, who has no previous convictions, is likely to be deported to his native Gambia after serving his sentence. He will not be eligible for release until the Parole Board deems it safe to do so.
