Jacek Kuliga
Age: 41
Town: Cumbria
Convicted: 26/06/2023
Assaulted a schoolgirl which involved him grabbing her by the throat.
A forty-year-old man from Carlisle, Jacek Kuliga, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for assaulting a schoolgirl and voyeurism.
The assault, which occurred on January 25, 2021, involved Kuliga grabbing the teenage victim by the throat, causing bruising. The court heard that the girl was left terrified and has since suffered nightmares, sleeplessness, and difficulty in school. Her trust in adults was also severely impacted.
The voyeurism charge stemmed from Kuliga's use of a hidden camera with a motion sensor to capture "intimate" images of a woman. This offense led the victim to develop mental health problems. Recorder Samantha Presland, in an earlier hearing, described this behavior as "a total and utter objectification" of women, expressing frustration over the misuse of technology for such "base things."
Despite being convicted after trial, Kuliga continues to deny both offenses. Recorder Tony Hawks, who presided over the sentencing, highlighted the significant negative effects of Kuliga's actions on both victims. He acknowledged that the girl had been "terrified" and that the voyeurism victim had experienced significant mental health deterioration.
Kuliga will also be placed on the Sex Offender Register for seven years as a result of the voyeurism conviction.
The defense lawyer, Jeff Smith, argued that Kuliga had been in the UK for eight years and wanted to return to work. However, background reports indicated his continued denial of the offenses.
