Magician Faces Years Behind Bars After Rape Conviction

Jacob Blow, 31, has been convicted of four charges related to the rape and sexual abuse of a young girl when he was a teenager. The trial, which lasted weeks, concluded with Blow being found guilty of two counts of rape and one each of sexual assault and attempted rape. Blow, who is in poor health and undergoing dialysis treatment, was found not guilty of two other rape charges.

Blow, from Threemilestone near Truro, was initially charged with four counts of rape, attempted rape, assault by penetration, and sexual assault. The jury reached its verdict after a lengthy period of deliberation. Due to legal strikes and Blow's medical treatment, the jury reconvened a week later to continue deliberations on the remaining charges. Blow was found guilty of the remaining charges on June 30th.

During the trial, the prosecution detailed how Blow kissed the complainant, removed her clothing, and sexually assaulted her before raping her. The complainant testified that the rapes were frequent, occurring once or twice a week. The jury heard that the complainant first reported the abuse to police over a decade ago but was unable to pursue the allegations at that time.

Blow initially denied the allegations but later admitted to his father and police what he had done. However, he subsequently retracted his confession, claiming he lied to police because he believed agreeing to the accusations would allow him to continue practicing magic.

The impact on the complainant was significant. In 2019, she found the strength to re-engage with the police and give a video interview. The attempted rape charge stemmed from an unsuccessful attempt by Blow to engage in anal sex with the victim.

Blow is scheduled to be sentenced in August. The judge will decide whether to grant him bail until sentencing or immediately remand him into custody.
