Man Awaits Sentencing for Possession of Child Pornography

A 49-year-old man, James Adam Tait, is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possessing over 300 indecent images and 16 videos, including child pornography. The offenses were discovered when police, acting on intelligence from the online child abuse prevention unit, searched Tait's home in Westerloch Crescent, Lerwick.

The court heard that the images and videos were found on various devices belonging to Tait, some of which were stored in folders designed to make them harder to find. The charges against Tait covered a period from March 15, 2014, to June 17, 2019.

Over half of the videos and 21 of the still images fell into the most serious category of child pornography. The remaining images included 199 indicative images of children in swimwear or sportswear.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank adjourned the sentencing hearing until April 8 to allow for a criminal justice social enquiry report. Tait was placed on the sex offenders register and released on bail.
