Violent Sex Offender Jailed for 15 Years Following Two-Year Abuse Campaign
James Scanlon (born January 25, 1976) of Sedburgh Close, Sale was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Minshull Street Crown Court. He was found guilty of offenses including rape, sexual assault, and actual bodily harm following a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) investigation into a two-year campaign of abuse.
The jury heard that the abuse culminated in June 2022 when Scanlon held the victim against her will and subjected her to a serious and prolonged sexual assault.
Detective Constable Jacob Corrigan, of GMP's Trafford district, stated: "Firstly, my thoughts are with the victim of this horrific incident. She has suffered tremendously at the hands of Scanlan. The victim will continue to receive support from specialist services and, owing to this, she has been able to begin the recovery process."
Corrigan continued, "Sexual violence will not be tolerated in our communities, and we will continue to support those who suffer. If you are experiencing this, please talk to us. We can help you; we can give you the support you need, we can work with you to achieve justice and remove dangerous individuals from our communities. You are not alone."
