Registered sex offender has been jailed for breaching his sexual harm prevention order.
Jamie Gillett Sentenced for Breaching Sex Offender Order
Jamie Gillett, convicted in 2018 of sexual offences involving children, has been sentenced to two years and two months' imprisonment for breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Gillett, who was released from prison in 2018, was subject to strict conditions on his behaviour, including restrictions on interaction with children, possession of mobile phones or computers, and internet use.
On May 13, 2022, Gillett failed to attend a police station to sign his annual sex offender notification. When officers visited his home on May 26th, they discovered a hidden mobile phone and a games console with internet access, both of which were prohibited under his SHPO.
Further investigation revealed that Gillett had accessed the internet using three different aliases on the games console.
Gillett, of St John's Road, Gillingham, pleaded guilty to four counts of failing to comply with notification requirements and four counts of completing actions prohibited by an SHPO. The sentence also included sentencing for two counts of failing to comply with notification requirements in 2021.
Police Constable Marie Roostan of the Medway Offender Management Unit stated, "We regularly visit registered sex offenders living in our communities to monitor their conduct and ensure they are complying with any conditions in place to prevent them from re-offending. We endeavour to protect the most vulnerable in our community, and where any breaches are discovered, they will be arrested and brought before the court to answer for their actions."
