Torquay Paedophile Jailed for Indecent Images and SHPO Breach

Jason Black, 51, has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to making indecent images of children and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) at Exeter Crown Court.

Black, who has a history of similar offenses, was subject to various court orders and monitoring measures when he committed his latest crimes. Despite restrictions prohibiting him from accessing the internet, he ignored them and downloaded vile images of child abuse.

Prosecutor Ms Kelly Scrivener detailed how police apprehended Black in February after his email was linked to suspicious activity on a child-based image-sharing platform. Concerns arose regarding his potential re-engagement in accessing indecent images.

During a search of his residence, authorities discovered Black had been utilizing a computer in violation of his SHPO and had downloaded several pictures. While released initially, a subsequent search yielded more evidence of internet usage on devices he was forbidden from possessing.

A further warrant executed in August uncovered additional memory cards and SIM cards. Black, according to the prosecutor, possessed 16 devices capable of internet access and image storage, placing him in violation of his SHPO. Ms. Scrivener stated, "It was a concerted and repeated attempt to evade the prohibitions of his SHPO over the course of eight months."

The court heard that Black previously served jail time for similar offenses dating back to 2017. Defense attorney Ms Rachel Smith argued that he had shown some understanding of the harm caused by his actions and expressed remorse.

She further mentioned that Black's health is compromised and he is unable to work. Judge David Evans suggested that Black's offending might stem from social isolation.

Black will serve half his sentence in prison, with the remaining period under license.
