Taxi driver raped clubber returning from night out.

Predatory Taxi Driver Jailed for Nine Years

A Birmingham taxi driver, Jhamil Hussan, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the rape of a passenger he picked up outside a city centre nightclub.

The 39-year-old collected the victim from the Nightingale Club in Kent Street at 2:30 am on April 17. During the journey, Hussan engaged in small talk with the victim before groping her. He then parked his car near her home, and when she got out to walk, he grabbed her and took her to a nearby park, where he raped her.

The victim reported the assault to her parents upon returning home, and the police were immediately contacted. Hussan was later found parked outside the club and arrested. He initially claimed innocence, alleging that the victim had forced herself on him. However, his alibi was exposed as a fabrication, and he was convicted of two counts of rape at Birmingham Crown Court.

Hussan was sentenced on Friday, July 7. James Gormley, senior crown prosecutor with the West Midlands CPS's rape and serious sexual offences unit, welcomed the sentence.

"Jhamil Hussan is a dangerous sexual predator who targeted and raped a vulnerable woman," said Gormley. "When he was arrested, he claimed the victim had forced herself onto him and he had tried to stop her. This was a blatant lie. I would like to thank the victim for her courage and support in helping us to bring this man to justice."
