Former Leicestershire Teacher Jailed for Sex Offenses Against Children Online
A former Leicestershire teacher, John Ewan Myles, has been sentenced to more than six years in prison after admitting to committing sex offenses against children online. The investigation began in April 2022 when Leicestershire Police received a report alleging Myles had been engaging in sexual activity with a teenage girl he met online.
At the time of the offenses, Myles was employed as a teacher at Ashby School. He was arrested at his North West Leicestershire home in April 2022, and officers recovered several devices, including a phone hidden under his bed.
The investigation revealed that Myles had contacted the first victim online using a fake name and claiming to be 18 years old. They exchanged messages for several months before Myles began sending her sexual images of himself. Devices recovered from Myles's home showed evidence of an online sexual relationship and numerous recorded video calls involving sexual activity between him and the girl.
One video call featured the girl stating she was 15 years old, and on some of the videos, she was wearing her school uniform.
Myles was charged with numerous offenses and pleaded guilty. However, while awaiting sentencing, he disclosed additional offenses involving another girl. Further investigation confirmed that Myles had contacted a second teenage girl online using the same alias, "Jamie Reid," claiming to be 17 years old.
Myles engaged in sexual conversations with this second victim, who disclosed her age. He then requested sexual images and videos from her, sending his own sexual images and videos in return.
