Paedophile son who has repeatedly battered his mum black and blue.

John Skelton, a 46-year-old convicted paedophile, has been sentenced to an additional two-and-a-half years in prison for attempting to groom what he believed were two 13-year-old girls. This latest conviction follows a disturbing history of violence, particularly against his own mother.

Skelton's criminal record is extensive, with 36 convictions for 65 offences dating back to the late 1980s. These include numerous assault charges, including an extended prison sentence for wounding his mother, Hazel Skelton, in 2011.

In 2019, Skelton was banned from his mother's home after threatening her during an assault. However, he breached the restraining order and moved back into her Wirral home in early 2020.

In May 2020, Skelton attacked his mother after she refused to buy him alcohol. He subjected the 66-year-old to a brutal assault, using her walking stick to inflict serious injuries. Ms. Skelton suffered a head laceration, broken ribs, and extensive bruising.

Skelton was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the attack on his mother in December 2020. However, while in prison, he was discovered to be engaging in sexually explicit conversations with teenage girls on Facebook. He sent them pictures of his penis, encouraged them to perform sexual acts, and requested indecent images.

For these offenses, Skelton was given an additional two-and-a-half year sentence, to be served consecutively to his existing jail term. Skelton's history of violence and exploitation highlights the serious danger he poses to the community.
