Ex-teacher spent more than a decade grooming young boys.
Former Teacher Jailed Again for Sexually Abusing Boys
Jonathan O'Brien, 61, a former teacher at Winterfold House School in Kidderminster, as well as schools in West Sussex and Oxfordshire, has been sentenced for further sexual offenses against young boys. O'Brien, already serving time for previous offenses, was convicted last month for abusing a teenage student at Seaford College in West Sussex in 1992.
The victim, who endured the abuse for over 20 years before reporting it, was a student at Seaford College when O'Brien, a teacher at the time, exploited his position to groom the boy. The abuse involved indecent assaults and took place both at the school and at O'Brien's home in Oxfordshire.
Police Constable Yvonne Daddow highlighted the courage of the victim in coming forward after being triggered by media coverage on sexual offenses. She stated that the case demonstrates the importance of reporting such crimes, regardless of how long ago they occurred.
Seaford College has cooperated with the investigation and confirmed that the offenses are unconnected with their current management and pupils.
O'Brien pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, to run concurrently with his previous sentence for offenses in Kidderminster and Oxfordshire. This sentence adds to the 13-year prison term he received in 2014 for sexually abusing students at Winterfold House School and The Oratory School.
O'Brien remains on the Sex Offenders Register for life and is subject to a Sexual Offence Prevention Order (SOPO) that restricts his contact with children.
