Convicted Sex Offender Jailed for Staging £8,000 Burglary

A convicted sex offender, Jordan Chalmers, has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for staging an £8,000 burglary in a bedsit while the victim was hospitalized.

The 26-year-old, who had an outstanding warrant for recall to prison, targeted the home in Tyseley in September. He discovered the property was empty and proceeded to steal cash and "high-value items."

Upon returning from the hospital, the victim found his room had been broken into. Forensic officers were called to the scene, and despite the absence of witnesses, they were able to lift a fingerprint from a toolbox. This fingerprint was matched to Chalmers.

Chalmers was apprehended on October 20 after he failed to pull over for traffic officers. He initially denied the charges, but after further evidence was presented in court, he pleaded guilty.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: "A man has been jailed for stealing around £8,000-worth of items from a property in Tyseley. Jordan Chalmers committed the burglary in September this year and was jailed for 20 months at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday December 16 2022."
