Jozef Janczura Sentenced to 20 Years for Rape and Assault
Jozef Janczura, 34, of Laburnum Road, Southampton, has been sentenced to a 20-year extended sentence for the rape and assault of an 18-year-old woman in Riverside Park, Southampton on December 2, 2018.
After more than a year, a jury at Southampton Crown Court delivered a unanimous guilty verdict on both counts on December 11, 2019. Janczura appeared in court today for sentencing, where the judge handed down the 20-year extended prison sentence for the brutal attack.
The victim reported that while walking along Woodmill Lane in December 2018, she was grabbed by the neck and raped in a wooded area in Riverside Park between the skate park and tennis courts by a man unknown to her.
Following the report, officers immediately launched an investigation, appealing for witnesses and seeking residential CCTV and dash cam footage. The victim received support from specialist officers, and forensic evidence was sent for fast track analysis. On December 7, officers discovered that the DNA found did not match any entries in the national police database.
In response to this discovery, an extensive CCTV strategy was planned in collaboration with the National Crime Agency to identify the perpetrator.
