Man Sentenced to Over Three Years for Possessing Indecent Images of Children

A Bradford man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for possessing over 1700 indecent images of children. Julian Barnes, 50, of Haycliffe Terrace, pleaded guilty to seven charges related to indecent images of children.

Bradford District's Police Online Investigation Team initiated an investigation in March 2022 after discovering 17 indecent images uploaded to a Google account. The IP address traced back to Barnes' home address, leading to his arrest, charges, and remand on January 25, 2023.

On June 22nd, Barnes was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court to 45 months in prison. He was also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required to register as a sex offender for life.

Officer PC Kate Davis of Bradford District's Police Online Investigation team stated: "Barnes was in possession of the most disturbing child abuse material at the time of his arrest. His collection included more than 1700 images of the most serious category. Behind every picture there is a victim of child abuse. We welcome the lengthy sentence today which reflects the seriousness of his offending. We are committed to protecting victims of child sexual abuse. We will find those people responsible and bring them before the courts."
